Holidays are coming up and I wanted to give an update about ou dahlia tuber sales scheduled for Noon (Eastern time) on January 1st . We upped our game in 2024 and added about 75 new dahlia varieties (for a total of 155).
In the past we opened dahlia tuber sales in mid-December. Well I finally wised up. This was a nightmare for MI taxes and did not work well with my day job and the academic calendar. Plus with over 155 dahlia varieties and 4000 tubers to separate, I needed some time.
I will be doing a first release of about 40% of the dahlia tuber stock that I hope to sell. When I separate tubers I make sure I see eyes and do a fair number of double and triple tubers. But as many of us know, tubers and dahlia can be temperamental. All looks great now but I don’t like counting on tubers eyeing up only to disappoint people.
The January 1st sale will be the sale with the most varieties. I will release a second and third bunch of tubers when I can confirm they have eyed up (date TBD in early March and early April). I do grow cuttings for my own garden and willl have some available for local purchase, but this sale is for tubers only.
Shipping:
I will have a single shipping cost. This is the most effective and efficient way to ship and does not force me to limit tuber size and number. While I hate how expensive it is to ship. If you place a larger order; I'm more than happy to eat any additional cost. That is a good problem to have.
I am adding an early shipping option in March for those who want to start their tubers earlier or pull cuttings. I will charge a small fee for this that can be added to your order when you check out. I cannot guarantee tubers due to weather or shipping issues. I can say I have received my tubers from Swan Island Dahlia (OR) in early March in Michigan, and never had a problem. All other orders will be shipped in April. I start waking tubers in late February/early March.
I will combine shipping on all orders from a single address. Just note that when placing multiple orders. For those with early shipping, I will be able to combine shipping up to the date I ship.
Local pick-up will be available March 29th, April 26th and May 10th. I'll contact those selecting this option with the times.
If you would like to preview our varieties and prices, I currently have all varieties listed, some will be limited in tuber numbers. I'll be adding images, updating and refining descriptions, and confirming pricing over the next few weeks. I've been documenting this process on Instagram and Facebook if you are interested. You should have all information prior to the sale opening on January 1st, if I can open the sale a little earlier I'll send an email to my list with some prior notification.
I always love this time of year. With the tubers resting and my seed order going out in the coming weks it is the season of hope. Feel free to connect with any questions and enjoy the Holiday Season.
