Why FlowerBird Farm & Garden

Sweet Jenny, coming up with a farm name was not easy.

First I had to get over my imposter syndrome. Am I really a farm...or am I "just" a garden. Full disclosure, I wimped out and put both.

So why FlowerBird? Well I wanted something that represented the family aspect, what we value, and did not sound to embarrassing. So here is our best explanation:

Every year we are so excited for the hummingbirds. We have a feeder outside our front window. We start our mornings drinking coffee, petting the dogs, and exclaiming "hummer" whenever we see a hummingbird visiting the feeder. Yup, that is our excitement.

So I wanted something with the hummingbird. So I started Googling. What came up was the regal flowerbird (Crotalaria cunninghamii), this is a perennial shrub with flowers that resemble a hummingbird (see picture below). This fit us for several reasons: my husband is a conservation biologists who specializes in birds, I'm a plant biologist (my off-farm job), and hummingbirds are something we love as a family. So there you go.

So I did not want to overthink it. I jumped in. So that is who we are. FlowerBird Farm & Garden. Oh, and notice the two capital letters in one word? Face Palm. I did that to emphasize both aspects. It is a pain to type. Oh well. It is the legal LLC name so I'm doubling down.
